JonBlaQ :By my biological father he was a singer and he was always practicing and singing in clubs and had a ton of records
[TUHH] How did the Hip Hop I Am album come about?
JonBlaQ : A friend of mine Los D. Poet hit me up and said he had a spot on the joint and he thought it would be cool if
if we did a collab. That was a huge blessing for me cause he could’ve done it alone but he pulled me in so salute to him
[TUHH] What was the vision for your song on the ” HIP HOP I AM ” album? What was the title? Why did you choose that title?
JonBlaQ : Speaking from my perspective when Los hit me up he already had a verse in mind that he had laid on the joint
and Supreme i think had named the track “The Urge” so when i peeped Los verse it just felt like its was one of those tracks where we were
just gonna go “in” on some real battle , freestlye type vibe cause it was like saying we had that Urge to just rock!!
[TUHH] What is your favorite part of creating music or performing?
JonBlaQ : For me creating music and performing is cathartic, it puts me in a zone that I cant really find anywhere else
i know people smoke drink etc, to relax or feel some kinda of way but music truly puts me in that space listening to beats
hearing ill rhymes and creating songs is what puts me in that zone where i can just go to another place.
[TUHH] Where do you get your inspiration from?
JonBlaQ : First and foremost God like im a spiritual dude so music is just not a hoby for me i feel connected to something
bigger than myself when im workin on music so that makes me look at it in a place where i really cherish the gift that i was
blessed with and i take it super serious because not everbody can do what we do as Emcee’s its a gang of rappers but to me
Emcees are special.
[TUHH] What are some of the highlights from the past year for you? What’s in store for 2016?
JonBlaQ : speaking for myself i maid a conscious effort to really push to work this year, i’ve done a kids app, directed and shot videos,
put out my album Broken Bars and finished another album Hell or Highwater right on the heels of that, numerous collaborations like this HipHop I am album with Supreme and a gang of other tracks that havent even been released with other artist, as well as developing a online
reality show with my homie Jae Blacc its just gonna be a gang of stuff i wanna have my hands in.
[TUHH] If you had to pick your top 5 ‘coolest things in the world’, what would they be? (can be music related… or not)
JonBlaQ : Family, Music, Comic book Super hero movies, Apologetics, video editing
[TUHH] Who is your favorite or most loyal fans?
JonBlaQ : Mostly the people that have been riding with me from or before i put out my first CD the Never Ending story way
too many to name but my city Winston -Salem N.C aka the Tre-4 they hold me down so all the love in the world goes out to them
[TUHH] What is one thing you’ve learned during your career in music? Any advice for people starting out in the industry?
JonBlaQ : Never follow trends your music is all about u so its not about everybody liking you but rather finding and catering to those people
that think and appreciate the things that u do. Its cool to be flexible but never be someone or something your not.
[TUHH] Anything else we should know about you?
JonBlaQ :Just that I appreciate every single opportunity God places in front of me and that i care about HipHop i care about the images and messages I put out and it means something to me to leave u with something, Whether its my skill level, a story im telling , some new insight or even something humorous over the years great musicians and Emcees imparted who they were in there songs to me and i want to do that for others.
